In This Instructable You Will Learn How To know If The Plant Wants Water Or Not.

  • We usually give water to the plants by pouring water in the soil. In this way water is absorbed by the soil. But we do not know that whether the plant want’s water or not. Water may be poured in the soil but we do not know whether this water is required by the plant? In that case it is wasting precious resource like water. In some circumstances water in the plant gets vaporized due to the heat and plant needs water for its metabolism and water is not available to plant as we follow our pattern of watering plant.

    We use the concept of checking the electric current flow in plant. The electric current varies with the level of water in the plant.

    You Will Need Only A Few Things:

    1) A Plant.

    2) Ammeter.

    3) 350mA Adapter OR A 9v Battery.

    4) Some Wires.

    5) Paper Clips (As Electrodes)

    6) Table Salt OR Common Salt.

    Step 2: Making The Device.

    First:

    We have to insert two electrodes in a plant. Insert The Electrodes In The Stem About 5cm Apart.

    Step 3: Procedure

    First we have to insert two electrodes in a plant. We pass 150mA in one of the electrode. At the other end the current is read. The current is automatically calculated by he ammeter/multimeter and necessary action is taken based on the reading.



    Water acts as a resistance. So less the water in the plant, less the current is passed. More the water in the plant, more current is passed.

    Step 4: Result

  • If The Current Is Less Than The Original Current On The Ammeter Then The Plant Needs Water.
  • If The Current Is More Than The Original Current On The Ammeter Than The Plant Does Not Need Water.

    This would reduce the work of humans to look after the plants and save water. It will allow the plant to grow automatically. Practically this device is very useful to humans; it does not wait for humans for any commands, but tells the human if the plant needs water or not.
