Charging the Girls
I decided last summer that the Droids now needed a way of charging when I was out and about at outdoor events and solar charging seemed to be the way to go. I have now created two charging systems one which uses some large solar panels which is great outside and one which I use mainly inside and is charged by panels but not always plugged in i.e.: it charges the batteries at a lower level so the batteries run for much longer. The later charging unit also has lots of flashing LED's on it and light string charging leads which look great in low lit environments. These take power from a secondary battery in the charger unit so not effecting the main charge power to the Droids. They were very easy to make, the first being made out of an old power tools case and the second made from MDF loosely based on the droid charging dock used in Empire.
The inside charging station is also able to power a small screen which is linked via a wireless link to either Emy or Zoe (The Droids) so spectators can see through the eye of the droid as it trundles around a public event.
I was surprised at how effective both chargers were at providing the needed power boost at events plus they ended up looking better than I thought they would as well, considering they were made in a very short space of time.
