My husband and I have recently started playing Dungeons and Dragons with a group of friends. We have been having lots of fun on our fantasy filled adventures. My husband asked me if I could make some sort of drawstring bag for his dice. I went into my own dungeon of crafts and in about an hour I came back with this pretty awesome dice bag. The others in our group were pretty jealous but I plan on making them all their own pouches.
Step 1: Materials & Tools
Here are some things that you are going to need:
- Fabric A (exterior)
- Fabric B (lining)
- Drawstring (yarn also works)
- Tailors chalk (or any other tool for marking)
- Safety pin
- Other Sewing notions
Step 2: Cut & Measure your peicesNow its time to measure and cut your pieces. This bag can be customized to just about any size. Here are the dimensions that I used.
Exterior & Lining (bag body) - 11 X 5 inches
Exterior & Lining (bag bottom) - 5 inch circle
Drawstring - 15 inches. To figure out the dimension you can lie your string on top of a piece of the bag body (that is flattened out) Its good to make it bigger because it can always be cut down.
Step 3: Putting it all together
Now its the fun part, seeing your bag actually take shape!
Take the exterior bag body and fold it in half. Take some chalk and mark an inch from the top edge. Make another mark a half inch below the first mark. Next pin the bag and sew! Sew until you come to the first chalk mark and cut, then continue at the second chalk mark. This little hold is going to be where we insert the drawstring.
Take the lining body piece, fold in half then sew.
To both exterior and lining attach the circle to the bottom. (Note for the exterior the bottom is the opposite side of where the drawstring hole is!)
Take assembled exterior and turn right side out. Keep lining inside out. Place the exterior inside of the lining. Pin along the top edge, leave about two inches open and sew. Pull the bag inside out through the two inche hole. If its stiff you can iron it out a bit to make it nice and crisp. Pin up that little two inch hold and fold the raw edges so they are hidden. Sew a top stitch along the top edge. Next find the drawstring hole, pin along the bottom hole and sew around again.
Step 4: Insert Drawstring
Take a safety pin and attach to one edge of the string. Locate the drawstring hole on your bag and feed the string through to the other side. When it comes out the other side you can take of the safety pin and knot both endes of the string.
Step 5: Show it off
Place your dice in the bag and be the coolest person at your D & D game.
