I have been making a lot of nice instructables recently, lots of cooking and sewing things. Since Danger is my middle name, and with April Fool's day coming up, and since I just started working here at Instructables, I thought it was about time to show my new coworkers how I earned that nickname. I came up with the idea of chocolates that look deceptively delicious, but actually are full of something disgusting, in this case, leftover bacon grease! *insert evil laughter here*

Step 1: Ingredients

To make these, I used a deep candy mold I got at the craft store (the deeper it is, the more filling you can fit in each candy), dark chocolate flavored candy melts (easier to work with than real chocolate chips, you can melt them in the microwave! No need to worry about tempering), and a gross thing to fill them with, in my case, leftover bacon fat. We go through a lot of bacon at my house so we always have a container of bacon fat in our freezer. I wanted to use something edible, but not something that would taste good. You could use your imagination for other things to fill these with, toothpaste, pickles, the possibilities are endless and disgusting.

Also, not pictured here are spoons, butter knives and pre-made paper candy cups for the final presentation.

Also, this technique can be used to make actually delicious chocolate candy, just use something yummy as the filling. In fact, you might want to make both so you can then apologize for the gross versions. I didn't do that because who needs friends?

Step 2: Make the chocolate

Put some of the candy melts in a microwave safe container and microwave for one minute. Check on the candy melts, stir them around, then put them back in for 30 more seconds if they are not melted. These were pretty much the directions on the bag that the candy melts came in and it worked pretty well. These melt pretty easily.

After the candy melts are melted, I used a spoon to coat the inside of each mold with chocolate. It doesn't really matter how the inside looks, since the outside will look fine and that's the part that people see. These candy melts firm up pretty quickly since I didn't heat them up that much, so it solidified pretty fast when I put them in the mold. I still put them in the fridge for a few minutes to fully solidify though!

Step 3: Add filling

The filling I'm using is bacon fat, but again, you can use whatever. My bacon grease was frozen solid so I had to let it thaw out for a few minutes, but I didn't want it completely liquid. When it was nice and scoopable, I put about a teaspoon amount of grease in each chocolate shell but make sure it doesn't fill the mold completely. You still need to add the bottom of the candy to complete the look and if the molds are full of bacon grease, the chocolate on the bottom will fall off. Once they are all full, put the whole thing in the freezer to solidify the bacon fat again.

Step 4: Add the bottom of the chocolate

Once the bacon grease is completely frozen in the molds, you can move on to this step. Bacon grease has a pretty low melting point, and the last thing you want is your bacon fat liquifying at this step.

Microwave your chocolate candy melts again, and carefully spoon into the molds on top of the bacon fat. Make sure it touches all sides of the mold and the chocolate shell that you poured in first. Try to make this relatively flat so your chocolates can sit upright. I found a knife helpful for leveling them. You have to work quickly because the frozen bacon grease cools down the melted chocolate pretty fast.

Step 5: Finishing Touches and Prank!

Remember to keep these in the fridge or freezer until you are ready for the prank, otherwise the bacon grease may melt and make a mess.

I got some paper candy cups from the craft store to add some credibility to the prank. Leave these somewhere tempting or present them to an unsuspecting victim and watch their faces change from delight to disgust as soon as they take a bite!

Go forth and prank! I found this works best if you have just started a new job and do this to your manager. He will appreciate your initiative, creativity and sense of humor!*
