So this little Vanity is perfect for small rooms. It can be set up in any way, at any hight. You can adapt to what ever size and storage suits your need, which is what is really brilliant. But the best part of this is you can make it for under 12euros.
You might think it's very low but I did it so I can sit on the floor to do my makeup. Also if you've seen my Bed Frame Instructable, you may have noticed that the shelf is the same color as the frame, I used the same dye to make it a set.
To make this you will need:
A flat piece of wood (what ever size suits your needs)
2 Shelf holders
A Framed Billboard
Wood Varnish/ Dye or Paint (Optional)
Sponge/ Rag or Paint Brush
Double Sided Tape
Step 1: GETTING THE SHELF READY
Take your piece of wood and paint it what ever color you want. Make it stripy if you want ! Let your creativity out of its cage!
Personally I like the wood look and feel so I went with is nice brownish color. The same as my Bed Frame.
I used a rag to avoid paint brush strokes. Always be careful with dribles on the sides, wipe the up fast or they will show later on.
Don't forget that many thine layers always look better then thick layers.
Let it dry.
Step 2: FIXING SHELF TO THE WALL
Well this is pretty straight forward.
Using your shelf holders fix your shelf to the wall. Put it up as high or low as you want. It might be good to sit what ever way you would when using the vanity to get it just the right hight for you. On the chair you use for example.
Make sure its very solid.
Step 3: THE MIRROR
The mirror is from a 4 pack of square mirrors from IKEA. I decided to add a frame because it looked a little naked with just the mirror.
Hang it up on the wall using double sided tape.
The frame is simply a billboard I got in a second hand shop for 1euro.
Cut a hole in the cork big enough for the mirror. Then paint the frame and the cork what ever color you like (or don't, it's up to you)
Fix it to the wall using double sided tape again. Make sure its nice and solid.
Step 4: THE BASKETS
Two baskets are what I needed. One for makeup and the other for my jewelry. But add on as many as you like.
First put your basket against the wall were you want to set it up to mark where you need to put the screws.
Screw two screws for each basket, but not all the way in (see first image).
Hang up the baskets on the screws.
If you look at the second image you can see that I chose baskets with a "netting" which is really handy to hang up earrings (see second image, yes I loose a lot of earrings). Its all about being practical!
At this point it should look something like the last imagine.
Step 5: ORGANISE YOUR STUFF
Hang up your pictures, organize your makeup and jewelry!
And VOILA ! A fully functional vanity !
Add on extra basket, hook, shelves, boxes, dispensers or what ever you could possibly need to make it perfectly fitted to you ! If you come up with any ideas let me know, I'm still planning on adding a little bit of storage to mine.
